We created a “bus stop” for our residents. I bought an actual bus stop sign off of Amazon after being inspired by a memory care community in Germany where they did something similar. Since our residents have dementia, we have a locked community. For people who feel like they need to “go home,” this gives them some perceived control over their own fate. After a few minutes, we go to the resident and explain that the bus is late. We then get them involved in something they enjoy.
