Memory Care

“Rachael. Memory Care Coordinator,” Beatrice read out loud off my name tag as I leaned down to tie her shoes.

I paused, surprised to hear my name read aloud.

“Why Memory Care?” she asked me, looking concerned. “Is that about me? Do I have a memory problem?"

I was shocked. 99% of the time, residents didn’t even look at my name tag. This, however, threw me for a loop.

I wish that I didn’t have that title on my name tag. For the residents that were a little more high-functioning, my title was confusing.

"No,” I replied. “It’s for me. It’s my job to remember all of the stuff everyone else around here forgets,” I smiled.

Beatrice laughed. “Oh, that’s good,” she replied.
