My mom has dementia and is going downhill. She has gotten to the point where she can't write checks to pay her bills. Would it be wrong to talk to her about me taking over her bills? I am her daughter and do not live with her.

I think you should definitely talk to her about taking over her checkbook. You don’t want her to get scammed by someone over the phone (or online) as this happens too frequently to people with dementia. They end up writing checks or giving bank account numbers to people who they don’t know. Don’t feel bad about taking over her bills: you’re doing her a HUGE favor whether she realizes it or not!
